Public holiday and office closure planner

Christmas shutdown sounds simple. Then a client rings on the 29th with an ATO letter. This planner shows the days your phone still needs a plan. Pick your state, enter the dates your office is closed and your usual open days. It lists the public holidays inside that stretch, flags the part-day ones like Christmas Eve evening in some states, and counts the business days nobody's at the desk. Add your usual calls per day if you want a rough count of calls to cover. Holiday dates come from Fair Work and each state government, linked below the result. Regional holidays vary, so check your local list too.

How this works

For every day from your first closed day to your last that is one of your normal open days, the planner marks the day closed and labels it a public holiday, a part-day public holiday, or an ordinary business day. Then it counts them. If you enter your average calls on an open day, calls to cover = that average times the number of open days closed.

Holidays kept only in some areas (such as the Royal Hobart Show) are listed and flagged, but not counted with the statewide public holidays. Holidays that some areas hold on a different day (such as Melbourne Cup in parts of regional Victoria) are flagged too. The dates cover 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, and a closure can run for up to 60 days.

Frequently asked questions

Does it include regional holidays?

It lists statewide holidays and flags the ones that only apply in part of a state, like the Royal Hobart Show, or Melbourne Cup in the parts of regional Victoria that hold it on a different day. Check your local list for those.

What's a part-day public holiday?

Some states have holidays that only cover the evening. In South Australia, for example, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are public holidays from 7pm to midnight.

Which years does it cover?

2026 and 2027, from the Fair Work lists and state government pages. The "last checked" date under the result shows when the list was last matched to those sources.
