Virtual Receptionist for Accountants in Perth: Answering Before You Open

By the Ripper Receptionist Team

Last updated: 15 October 2026

A made-up morning, to set the scene.

Picture a two-partner practice in Joondalup. It's Tuesday 27 October 2026, the day before the quarterly BAS is due. You walk in at 8.15 with your keys in one hand and a flat white in the other, and the voicemail light is already blinking.

Three messages. The first came in at 5.52 am. The second at 6.40. The third, at 7.31, is a client in Sydney asking, a bit sharply, whether anyone's there.

On Sydney's clock those calls came at 8.52, 9.40 and 10.31. Ordinary business hours. You just hadn't arrived yet, because in Perth it was barely breakfast.

Nobody's being slack. It's arithmetic.

An answering service for accountants in Perth answers your practice's calls in your name whenever you can't. For a Perth firm with clients over east, "whenever you can't" includes the hours before you open. A virtual receptionist like Mia, the AI receptionist we build, covers those hours and the rest of the day too: she takes the details, books consultations on Perth time and emails you the details of every call.

Two hours or three: the Perth phone maths

Western Australia keeps its own clock. Under the Standard Time Act 2005, "Standard time throughout Western Australia is 8 hours in advance of Co-ordinated Universal Time" (WA legislation: Standard Time Act 2005). Queensland and New South Wales both sit at 10 hours ahead (Queensland Standard Time Act 1894; NSW Standard Time Act 1987).

WA doesn't move its clocks, either. The NSW Government lists it among the states that skip daylight saving (NSW Government: Daylight saving). The last time WA voted on the question, at the 2009 referendum, No won 624,304 votes to 519,899 (WA Electoral Commission: 2009 Daylight Saving Referendum).

So the gap with the east coast moves. Brisbane is two hours ahead of you all year. Sydney is two hours ahead from April to October, then three once NSW switches to daylight time. This season that runs from 2 am on Sunday 4 October 2026 to Sunday 4 April 2027 (same NSW Government page).

When it's this time in SydneyPerth, April to early OctoberPerth, early October to early April
8:00 am6:00 am5:00 am
9:00 am7:00 am6:00 am
12:00 pm10:00 am9:00 am
5:00 pm3:00 pm2:00 pm

The three-hour months are the ones that sting. They take in two quarterly BAS dates, 28 October and 28 February (ATO: Due dates for lodging and paying your BAS). They also take in late October, when the ATO says people using an agent for the first time, or changing agents, "should contact them before 31 October" (ATO: Lodge your tax return with a registered tax agent). That's a new client hunting for an accountant at 8.30 Sydney time, which is 5.30 for you.

Late in the day it flips. Phone hours on the ATO's Phone us page are local time unless they're marked AEDT, and the switchboard is listed at 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (ATO: Phone us). Your Perth clients can ring it until 5 pm Perth time. When your Sydney and Melbourne clients' local 5 pm passes, it's 2 pm in Perth through summer, and you're the one still at a desk. Their questions about ATO letters come to you.

WA's own days off

Your public holidays don't match the east coast's either. These come from the WA Government's list (WA Government: Public holidays in Western Australia):

  • Labour Day: Monday 2 March 2026, Monday 1 March 2027.
  • Western Australia Day: Monday 1 June 2026, Monday 7 June 2027.
  • King's Birthday: Monday 28 September 2026, Monday 27 September 2027.

Compare Queensland, where Labour Day is the first Monday in May and the King's Birthday is the first Monday in October (Queensland Government: Public holidays). Your clients in Brisbane are working on all three of the WA days above.

Labour Day comes hard on the heels of the 28 February BAS date. In 2026, 28 February was a Saturday and Labour Day was the Monday straight after. WA Day takes a Monday out of early June. King's Birthday, at the end of September, is your last long weekend before October, and after it the next WA public holiday on that list is Christmas Day.

Those are days your office is shut and your phone isn't.

WA isn't short of potential callers, either: 278,520 businesses were operating in the state at the end of June 2026, according to the ABS (ABS: Counts of Australian Businesses, including Entries and Exits, Table 4).

One more local quirk. Your 08 area code isn't WA's alone. Under the Telecommunications Numbering Plan 2025, 08 numbers are used across "Western Australia, South Australia, the Northern Territory and parts of western New South Wales" (Federal Register of Legislation: Telecommunications Numbering Plan 2025, Schedule 1). An 08 number in your missed calls could be a client in Cottesloe or one in Adelaide. Either way, you keep that number when Mia picks up.

Where Mia fits in a Perth practice

We make Mia, so read this knowing that. Here's what she does for a practice that opens two or three hours after its east-coast clients do.

She's on before you are. Mia answers 24/7, every call, however many come in at once, so the 5.52 am caller gets a conversation, not a beep. She greets them with your practice's name and a recording disclosure.

You read the morning on the drive in. Each call's details land in your inbox when it ends, and the call's page holds the full transcript plus an AI summary. Mia gathers the caller's name (spelled back if it's unclear, never guessed), their number, what they want and how urgent it is, while they're still talking. She knows BAS, SMSF, ATO, PAYG and lodgement when she hears them.

Bookings are on Perth time. A request for "Thursday at ten" becomes a real date in your practice's own timezone, conflict-checked live against your hours and existing bookings in your RipperReceptionist calendar. Taken? She suggests another time. She can schedule a callback instead, and under rules you set, she can put an urgent caller through to your mobile.

She stays in her lane. A "can I claim this?" question turns into a booked consultation, because the answer is your billable work. If a caller starts reciting a TFN, Mia cuts them off before it reaches any note. Ask her when the BAS is due and she'll give the date from her calendar, which also holds return deadlines and monthly IAS dates. Ask her what to do about it and she books them in with you.

She chases the money. Mia chases the invoice by email and then SMS, so you don't have to.

For current plans, see the pricing page. To put a number on those early-morning voicemails, run your own figures through the missed call calculator.

Switching it on

You don't change numbers. You add a forward.

Sign up and paste your website address. Mia crawls it for your services, hours, pricing and policies, and you tidy up anything she's got wrong. Set her rules for hours, messages and what to capture. Then dial the forwarding code for your carrier: in the dashboard, Settings then Forwarding lists it with your Mia number already in place. To test, call your own 08 number from a different phone. Mia picks up.

Changed your mind? ##002# cancels all forwarding, effective immediately. Carrier codes live on the help page: Telstra, Optus and Vodafone mobiles and Telstra landlines get a code each, and there's guidance for other landlines and 1300 numbers. The whole setup is about a five-minute job.

If you'd rather hear her before signing anything, the demo line is +61 2 4072 7246. It's an 02 number. Try it at 6 am Perth time and see how she sounds.

So, that Tuesday before BAS. The 5.52 call gets answered, the 6.40 caller is booked for Thursday at ten, and the Sydney client gets a callback scheduled for when you're in. You read all three before you've finished parking.

Over east, the clocks cause different trouble. Brisbane stays on standard time all year, which we cover in our page for accountants in Brisbane. Adelaide shares your 08 code but, unlike you, changes its clocks. We've also got pages for Sydney and Melbourne.

Frequently asked questions

Can Mia answer before my Perth office opens?

Yes. Mia answers 24/7, so east-coast clients who ring at 5 or 6 am Perth time get a real answer. The details of each call land in your inbox.

What does Mia cost for a Perth practice?

See the pricing page for current plans. There's a 14-day refund on every plan, and you only pay for the minutes you use.

Will bookings land on Perth time or Sydney time?

Perth time. Mia sets every booking in your practice's own timezone and checks it against your hours and what's already in the calendar.

Does Mia answer on WA Day and Labour Day?

Yes. She answers every call around the clock, including WA public holidays, weekends and the mornings before you open.

Do I need a new phone number?

No. Your 08 number stays on your website, cards and invoices. Calls to it are forwarded to Mia, and ##002# turns the forward off whenever you like.

How can I hear Mia before I sign up?

Ring the demo line on +61 2 4072 7246. Ask her a tax question and you'll hear her book a consultation instead of giving advice.
